I am an avid music listener. But I know nothing about the logistics of it all. Can't read music, don't know what a chord is, definitely don't understand the differences between pitch and tone, etc. Something I do understand is the pure joy music can make a person feel. My friend Rob is an extremely well-rounded musician. He plays guitar, drums, marimba and so on, mixes his own beats and is just so knowledgeable about all things musical. He loves every little bit of it. When he talks to me about music or puts a song on for me to listen to the look on his face is unbelievable. His expression articulates happiness, excitement, engagement and pure PASSION. You can see how strongly the music pulls at him. Experiencing his committement to his trade forces me to be overcome with extreme sense of happiness... and a little bit of jealousy.
Not everyone can be so lucky. Its a great accomplishment to have a defined passion by the age of twenty. In a world where there are so many options and life paths, knowing what you want to do is awesome! If and when you are lucky enough to find "your thing," hold on to it tight. Harness the way you feel about that and channel that towards being productive and creating a life.
When you get that feeling or spark where you are so drawn towards something, don't ignore it! Explore the possibilities. When you can recognize something in someone, like music in Rob, don't ignore that. Talk about it. And go from there...
Happy exploring!
